Classes

We are accepting registrations for the upcoming 2023-2024 season until October 1st.

Dance classes offer so many benefits to today’s youth. Not only are our participates learning how to dance but they are working on building coordination, balance, confidence, and social skills. The St Francis Recreation Department offers the following styles ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and pom.

Ballet

Ballet is the “backbone” of dance training, ballet develops strength, poise, coordination, flexibility through light, graceful movements and positioning. We offer ballet classes or our beginner dancers ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old and advanced ballet for dancers ages 13 and older with teacher recommendation to dance ballet with use of pointe shoes. Dancers interested in pointe, please note a beginner pointe class will be opened in Fall 2019. 

Tap

Tap utilizes percussive footwork, movements & sounds to create rhythmic patterns. Students begin with basic rhythms & progress to more intricate, fast-paced combinations. Tap helps build foot and ankle manipulation and an understanding of rhythms and musicality.

Lyrical

Lyrical combines ballet, jazz and modern dance styles. As in our Jazz classes, our Lyrical class will include a warm-up, across the floor work and center combinations. The dance moves are choreographed, based on story told by the lyrics. Lyrical dancers will work on developing grace, strength and control.

Jazz

Jazz focusses on stamina, strength, and flexibility while dancing to fun upbeat music. As dancers progress, technical elements such as leaps, jumps, turns, and acrobatics develop. Jazz class is offered for dancer 4-18 years of age.

Hip-Hop

Hip Hop-The variety of styles offered in hip hop can be intricate, bouncy or sharp. This modern dance style requires precision movements offering a visual interpretation of modern music with a strong beat.

Pom

A high-intensity jazz/poms class with a focus on choreography, technique, and performance styles. Choreography integrates the use of poms and props. This is a great class for cheerleaders and future pom/dance team hopefuls.

Small groups/solos

At this time solos re only offers to graduation seniors. Small groups are selected within 3 tiers by priority 1. Offered to graduating seniors, 2. By teacher recommendations for special achievements or standing out in class 3. Randomized selection where all those interested are put in a drawing and are randomly selected for that season. The number of small groups slots available per season are based on teacher/choreographer availability.
